Worship With Us – July and August 2015

WorshipFrom Pastor David McMillan

On Sunday, July 5, we complete our sermon series Jesus is the Question with a message on Questions About Who Jesus Is. In the rest of July and first four Sundays of August, we’ll look at God’s secrets for nurturing healthy relationships. This new sermon series is inspired by Dr. Henry Cloud’s book The Secret Things of God: Unlocking Treasures Reserved for You. Dr. Cloud writes:

We were not meant to be alone. And yet sometimes our behavior or attitudes push away the right kind of people or attract the wrong kind. We get stuck in relationship patterns and think we can’t get out. But we can. When we activate God’s secrets in our life, we will discover newfound confidence, deeper relationships, and the kind of fulfillment we long for.

On the last Sunday of August, we’ll celebrate our 68th anniversary as a congregation with our Eastern Pennsylvania and Peninsula Conference United Methodist Bishop Peggy Johnson. I hope everyone will come out to celebrate another milestone in our life together.

Worship With Us – May and June

9am-WorshipFrom Pastor Dave

In May and June, we’ll continue to consider the questions Jesus asked in the four Gospels. Following the Rabbinical tradition, Jesus uses questions to send his listeners on a “quest” for truth and transformation. What response will Jesus’ questions elicit within those of us who confess him as “Savior and Lord?”

We have a few special Sundays coming up. On Sunday, May 10, we’ll gather for one worship service at 10 am to celebrate our Church Family. On Pentecost Sunday, May 24, we’ll recognize our graduates for 2015. Sunday, June 7, is Music Sunday, including special musical performances for the glory of God and the building up of Christ’s Church! Finally, on Sunday, June 28, Debbie Pyle and her piano students will lead us at our late service as we give thanks for our nation’s independence.

Worship Notes – March & April

Sunday Worshipfrom Pastor Dave

During the Month of March, we continue our sermon series: “That’s What the Man Said: The Sayings of Jesus” inspired by retired Methodist pastor Maxie Dunnam. During the season of Lent, we focus on Jesus’ hard sayings concerning “the cost of Christian discipleship.”

In April, we begin a new sermon series entitled: “Jesus is the Question.” According to seminarian president Martin B. Copenhaver, Jesus primary way of communicating and teaching was by asking questions. According to his count, Jesus asks 307 questions and answers only 3. Why does Jesus ask so many questions? Come to worship and see.

March 1 “Never Apologize for Being Human” John 14:8-14
March 8 “Living in Our Second Childhood” Mark 10:13-16
March 15 “How Deep Is Down?” John 16:19-33
March 22 “Cross-bearing Discipleship” Luke 9: 23-27

Worship Notes – Winter 2015

Sunday Worshipfrom Pastor Dave

Our sermon series for the next few months is entitled “That’s What the Man Said: The Sayings of Jesus.” It’s based on a Discipleship Workbook written by Maxie Dunnam, a retired United Methodist pastor and author. While Jesus healed many people and performed miracles, he was forever speaking words of life. They are not always easy words to hear for they challenge our acceptance of the status quo and our divided loyalties. But, the words which Jesus speaks are the truths that set us free. Come, as we gather for worship, let us sit beneath Jesus’ teaching and allow his Spirit to make, in us, all things new again.

from Pastor Dave

During the months of July and August, we continue our sermon series of the Fruit of the Spirit found in the 5th chapter of Paul’s letter to the church in Galatia. The various qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit are produced in the lives of those who choose to live their lives God’s way. Those who live God’s way, Paul writes, “will inherit the Kingdom of God.”
