Baptism Bible Study – Fall 2018

From Pastor SunAe Lee-Koo

Baptism is a Christian Initiation Rite that signifies the beginning of one’s journey as a Christian. Our baptism certifies our Christian identity – that we belong to the Universal Church through our local church membership among various denominations. There are people who think comfortably that her/his soul has secured a heavenly place through the Rite of Baptism. However, I am afraid that their misunderstanding may lead them to go astray from the Church, from their Christian faith and from their wishful destination.

Through Bible study on Baptism, I hope to enlighten your understanding of Baptism, and I hope that the Holy Spirit may empower you to live according to your Baptism in the name of the Trinitarian God. Please come and join us for our Wednesday Morning Bible Study starting Wednesday, the 17th of October, 2018. We will meet in Room #101 of the Educational Wing.

Children’s Sunday School

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Starting Sunday, October 7, 2018, the Potter’s Wheel class for children from Kindergarten–Grade 3 will be held from 10:15–10:55 in Room 101 in the education wing. We are asking for volunteers to teach this class. The lessons will still be prepared by Beverly Perella, Coordinator of Children’s Ministries.

Why are we doing this?

We want to offer Sunday School for kids at the same time we offer classes for adults. Thus, parents and kids can attend at the same time. We have children in this age bracket who attend both services. So it seems like this is the right time to combine the kids and offer one lesson for both groups at 10:15.
Our nursery attendants will continue to offer a lesson at 9:00, 10:15 and 11:00 AM as needed for infants through pre-kindergarten.

Please call Beverly Perella with any questions or to volunteer to teach.

VBS- Bible Heroes, Part II- The Lives of Esther, Moses and David

Did you know that Persian Queen Esther also had a Hebrew name? It was Hadassah which means myrtle tree. Could you risk your life like Esther did to save her nation of Jewish people? Why was the baby Moses placed in a basket woven from grasses, twigs, and leaves, and not in a small boat made of wood? There’s a simple answer — wood was scarce in ancient Egypt! Can you name all of the colors in Joseph’s coat, or can you interpret dreams like he did? Were these three people really superhuman? No, they were just normal people whom God asked to do remarkable tasks!

So what did these three have in common? Although at times they did express some doubt as to their ability to do what God asked, they knew that God was always with them, no matter how difficult their lives became. It was their belief and trust in God that gave them the strength to carry out His plan for each of them. So the motto for this year’s VBS is the same as it was last year — GOD IS ALWAYS WITH ME!

Our VBS kids (age 2–grade 3) will experience a glimpse into the lives of Esther, Moses, and Joseph through activities, stories, videos, crafts, music, and much more. So mark the dates of July 24, 25, and 26 on your calendar even if you don’t have kids in this age bracket because you do have a task to do. Look around your neighborhood, call your grandchildren, niece,s and nephews and invite them to join us from 6–7:15 on these nights. And remember, GOD IS ALWAYS WITH YOU no matter how old you are!

Our youth group Summit will be assisting as they have in the past. Could you help, too? Just tell Beverly and she will be certain to include you!
